From Sherman to Burton

It’s been said that every portrait includes at least two people: the subject and the artist. But sometimes, I don’t have a cooperative subject immediately available, which might explain why I take so many self portraits…

It started with my Cindy Sherman series, then got more complex with my Mise en Scéne series. Now, I find myself returning to another master storyteller who has influenced so much of my work since the very beginning: Tim Burton.

My new self portrait series is inspired by the visionary work of Tim Burton. My portraits will draw inspiration from his stylized filmography, paying homage to his mythology and mastery.

This is the first portrait from the series, a carnival barker portrait.
